Description
Overview
The Infinity REF1000S is a 10-inch shallow-mount subwoofer from Infinity’s Reference Series. It is designed to give a good sub-bass punch in installations where space is limited (tight boxes, compact trunks, shallow mounting depth). It also has a Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI) feature allowing you to switch the nominal impedance between 2 Ω or 4 Ω to match different amplifiers or wiring setups. woofersetc.com+4th.infinityspeakers.com+4sonicelectronix.com+4

Features
Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): You can switch between 2 Ω or 4 Ω nominal impedance so the sub can match with different amplifiers or wiring setups. Crutchfield+2infinityspeakers.com+2
Shallow-Mount Design: Reduced mounting depth to make it easier to install in tight spaces without sacrificing too much performance. sonicelectronix.com+2th.infinityspeakers.com+2
Durable Construction: Polypropylene cone + large rubber surround, single stacked magnet, designed for automotive reliability. sonicelectronix.com+1
Enclosure Recommendations
To get the best out of this sub, the following enclosure types and volumes are suggested: infinityspeakers.com+1
Enclosure Type | Recommended Internal Volume | Notes |
---|---|---|
Sealed | ~ 0.5 cu ft (≈ 14.15 liters) infinityspeakers.com | Tight, accurate bass, better for low frequencies, but less output than ported. |
Vented / Ported | ~ 1.25-1.50 cu ft (≈ 35-42 liters) depending on port diameter/length infinity-caraudio.com.au+2infinityspeakers.com+2 | More output in mid-bass; good if you want louder bass. Must tune port carefully. |
Band-pass | There are recommended band-pass designs in the spec-sheet (sealed + ported chambers) for maximum output. infinityspeakers.com |
Performance & Trade-Offs
What this sub does well, and what limitations to expect:
Pros:
Good low end for a 10-inch shallow sub, especially when paired with the right enclosure.
Flexibility in matching to amplifiers thanks to its SSI switch.
Relatively high peak power (800 W) for short bursts without distortion.
Shallow depth helps in tight installs (small trunk, under-seat, behind-rear seats, etc.).
Cons / Things to Watch:
Although the response goes down to ~35 Hz, you won’t get the extremely deep bass (“felt” bass) of larger 12- or 15-inch subs. If you want rumble down in the 20-30 Hz region strongly, a larger or more powerful sub might be better.
Sensitivity is moderate (89 dB) — you’ll need enough power from the amplifier to drive it well. Switching to 2 Ω helps with more current draw but you need a capable amp.
The impedance switch is physical and located on the back of the sub; you may need to remove the sub or access the back to change. Be careful when installing so that you don’t damage that component. Some user reviews mention this. sonicelectronix.com
Ported enclosures usually trade off low-frequency extension and tightness versus output in mid bass; for really clean bass and less distortion, sealed is safer.
