Features & Highlights

  • Plus One™ cone design: Infinity’s design that increases radiating cone surface area (i.e., a larger effective cone size) to improve low-frequency output and overall efficiency. th.infinityspeakers.com+1

  • Edge-Driven Tweeter: This tweeter layout aims to give better dispersion of high frequencies, smoother treble, less harshness. Useful when you listen to vocals, strings, cymbals, etc. Crutchfield

  • True 4-Ohm Architecture: Though nominal impedance is ~2.7 ohm, Infinity says its design allows safe handling of the current demands, letting the speaker pull more power (which can increase output) without overloading. Be careful that your amplifier or head unit can handle lower impedance loads. th.infinityspeakers.com+1

  • Reliability: Tested under standard environmental stresses (heat, cold, vibration, etc.) per Infinity/Harman standards. th.infinityspeakers.com+1

What to Expect in Use

Strengths

  • Clear mids and highs: Good for vocals, instruments, treble detail due to the tweeter and edge-driven dome design.

  • Better than many factory speakers: Stock speakers often have limited dynamic range and poorer materials; upgrading to PR5012IS should give a noticeable improvement in clarity, loudness, and definition.

  • Good value size: 5-1/4″ is smaller than 6½″, so useful for locations with limited space (doors, rear panels etc.).

  • Decent output at moderate power: With 40 W RMS, you don’t need a super-powerful amplifier to push them; a decent head unit may suffice for normal driving volumes.

Limitations / Things to Watch Out For

  • Limited low bass: Lower cutoff is ~67 Hz; below that you won’t get much output. If you like deep bass (electronic bass, subwoofer-heavy music), you’ll want a subwoofer for support.

  • Lower impedance implies higher current draw: your amplifier / head unit must be stable with loads less than 4 ohm, and wiring should be good quality to avoid voltage drop or distortion.

  • Not very deep mounting but still needs about 1.9″ top depth; for some tight door panels or retrofits, you need to verify if there’s room.

  • Peak power rating is for short bursts; sustained high volumes may push the speaker past its comfort zone (thermal limits, distortion).
